My most recent adventure back to Austin, TX, home of the Circuit of The Americas™ track, was for the 19th annual ROT Rally at the Travis County Expo Center for four days of Moto immersion!
As the Official Ticket Package provider for COTA and MotoGP VIP Village™, we like to get the word out there about the awesome races and Official Ticket Packages we offer, including MotoGP™, a favorite for many motorcycle lovers throughout the world.
Racing fans and riders who stopped by our booth learned about the upcoming MotoGP™ races in Laguna, CA and Indianapolis, IN, as well as the MotoGP™ race returning to the Austin Circuit in the spring of 2014. On-site attendees entered raffles for numerous prizes, including magnets, hats, tank tops, koozies and mini motorcycles. They also entered to win the Grand Prize of two MotoGP™ 2014 Official Ticket Packages to the spring race at the Circuit of The Americas™, which included tickets, hospitality party access and legend meet and greets were also raffled off throughout the four days!
A Motorcycle-Lover’s Dream Come True
The four-day rally showcased bikes of all shapes and sizes, including Harley’s, vintage, racing, European bikes and more. My personal favorite were those with neon lights, because they made the night rally downtown with thousands upon thousands of bikers an amazing thing to watch.
Bikes were not the only attention-getter of the weekend, but attendees enjoyed concerts, contests, car shows, Monster’s Freestyle MX, Mexico’s Motorcycle Acrobats, MMA fights and autograph signings by celebrities like Danny “The Count” Koker from the History channel’s Counting Cars.
This was a fun trip, not only because it was the first time we were part of this well-known motorcycle event, but because there was so much that goes on in those four days that you would never expect to see at the “typical” bike rally.
People, Pets and Prizes
The best part of the entire event was the wide range of people in attendance. I spoke with riders local to Austin to those coming in from 900 miles away, who all came in town for the same passion – motorcycles. There were a range of riders in attendance from young, new riders, to established professionals who ride as a hobby, competitive racers and those who ride as a way of life.
Such variety and thousands of people all coming together in one place also brought some interesting personalities, outfits and pets. For example, I met a biker who’s favorite outfit to ride in is KFC’s Colonel Sanders. When I asked why, he responded, “Why not make others smile while doing what I love?” I loved this response, hence why I photo-bombed a picture with him and one of his many fans that day.
The pets were just as bold, personality-filled and purely entertaining! Most brought dogs, dressed as bikers, country flags, racer’s apparel and more, while others brought rare pets and exotic birds. Dave, who was signing up to win our grand prize giveaway, had his parrot there cheering him on as a good luck charm!
We had winners that were MotoGP™ fans from all over the country, including a third-grade teacher (Alicia), a member of Austin’s rescue team (Ken), a biker who rides long-distances to raise money for charity (Jason) and several others.
A Father’s Day to Remember
Our last winner of the weekend was on Sunday, which also happened to be Father’s Day. I pulled the name from our entries and placed the phone call to a very excited race fan who came to collect his brand new COTA Experiences gear.
When he arrived at our booth, I found out that his daughter brought him to the rally to celebrate Father’s Day and this just completed what was already an amazing gift to her dad! I couldn’t have been happier, and neither could they.
Have you ever attended a national biker rally? If so, which ones and would you attend again? If not, do you hope to attend one in the future?
