Can you believe there are only two more races until Formula 1™ comes roaring into the good ole USA at the state-of-the-art Circuit of The Americas™? I sure can’t! The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ holds a special place on the 2014 calendar and in the hearts of race fans across the globe.
With Austin being the second to last stop before the highly anticipated Abu Dhabi finale, teams, drivers and fans alike are filled with excitement, thrills and chills.
The road to the Formula 1™ final race is a long one, but the second to last race is where it’s at! Why you ask? Because fans and teams get a glimpse at who could possibly win the overall standings and who they really need to watch out for. The anticipation is high and there is no better circumstance for attending an F1™ Grand Prix!
Religious Formula 1™ follower or not, I’m sure you’ve heard of the drivers I am about to mention because they are the cream of the 2014 F1™ crop. There are only two races left before the 2014 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ (Japan and Russia) and a lot can change between now and then, BUT think of this as a weather forecast, who doesn’t love looking ahead anyways!?
Currently, Mercedes AMG Petronas driver, Nico Rosberg, is leading the pack with 238 points. I bet you can’t guess what driver is tailing him (hence the sarcasm)? Yep, you’ve guessed it – Lewis Hamilton, Rosberg teammate who has 216 points. The rivalry between these two all season has been one for the history books and it’s only going to get more intense in the final weeks.
According to redbullusa.com, “'This is a great drivers' track -- it's very tough to pull together three perfect sectors. Personally, I find the final two sectors easier than the first; those high-speed changes of direction need a good set-up, and balancing that requirement against the demands of the slow-speed stuff is tricky,' stated Hamilton about the COTA track."
He also said, "Turn one probably looks more exciting from the outside than it does from inside the cockpit -- it's certainly not easy, though. You can get over steer, or lock up, and it's tricky to get a perfect line through there.”
Our next contender is the Red Bull Racing Aussie, Daniel Ricciardo! For only being his first season driving for Red Bull, he has been performing on full throttle and the crowd loves him (I think the accent helps, if you ask me). Riccardo has won three races thus far out of 13 starts and currently has 166 points in the standings.
This Aussie may be off the lead compared to Rosberg and Hamilton, but that doesn’t mean he can’t steal another win at Circuit of The Americas™ on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014.
Another contender to keep your eye on is Fernando Alonso, Formula 1™ driver for Team Ferrari. He fell in the standings this past weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, but he is still fierce and is neck-and-neck with Valtteri Bottas in the standings.
What does Alonso think about the COTA track? “It's very demanding, especially the first sector which is very fast and where you can really feel the acceleration of a Formula One car. The track is very smooth and not at all porous: it reminds me a lot of Portimao in Portugal, so if it was to rain, it could be like driving on glass." Source>>
