Beginners Guide to Formula 1 United States Grand Prix

It’s that time of year again, ladies and gentleman, when one of the world’s hottest sporting events makes its stop in the land of the free and home of the brave –the good ole USA! The 2014 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ returns to Circuit of The Americas™ in Austin, Texas on Nov. 2, 2014, and we are over the moon about it!

The United States Grand Prix is the second to last race on the 2014 calendar before the double points finale in Abu Dhabi. With that being said, Formula 1™ Austin promises intense racing, one-of-a-kind battles and an action packed weekend.

The Teams and Cars

The weekend wouldn’t be what it is without the hard-working teams and talented drivers! Let’s keep this simple, there are 12 teams currently in Formula 1™ and each team enters two cars in each race, totaling in 24 drivers. There's a list of them all here>>

Each team designs and builds their car from the ground up each year – can you say impressive? They must follow the strict technical regulations (that change each year), which limit what can be done. However, every team has the best-of-the-best engineers, technicians and aerodynamicists on hand.

And you’ll be able to see these teams, cars and drivers LIVE during your pit lane tour. Yes, you heard that correctly! See inside the garages and get up close and personal with one of the world’s fastest four-wheeled machines.

The Circuit

describe the imageThe 20-turn, counterclockwise track design was inspired by the best circuits around the world. The circuit was also designed to take advantage of the surrounding natural land to include dramatic elevation changes of up to 40 meters.

Turn One, features a steep, uphill run which is also the facility’s most sought after view and seating. Turns three through six have been designed as a homage to the Maggots, Becketts, Chapel complex at Silverstone. One of COTA’s most famous turns is the triple apex stretch through turns 16-18, which has been modeled after Istanbul Park's turn eight. Take a look at this 'wow' factor – we promise you won’t be disappointed. HD Tour>>

The City

Not only is the track a great place to experience racing, but it’s located in a rockin’ city!
Austin is known as The Live Music Capital of the World®. The city’s lifeblood is the local music community, from the local bands, to major festivals like SXSW, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. For visitors, the music scene is easy to find; nearly 200 venues offer rock, blues, jazz, hip hop, punk, or Latino shows nightly.

If the nightlife really isn’t your thing, Austin offers an adult play ground for the more outdoorsy, adventurous types. Austin has 300 annual days of lovely sunshine and an average temperature of about 70 degrees.

Did you know? Austin also has been named among the top U.S destinations for lovers of the outdoors. With numerous trails for biking, hiking and natural cave exploration you’re sure to get in your daily workout.
