Whether you are traveling into Austin a few days early or staying for a couple of days after the Tudor Championship & the World Endurance Championship, we compiled a list of some of the fun and amazing things Austin, Texas has to offer for you and your family!
1. The Sound of Music
Austin is widely-known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” which means that regardless of what genre of music you prefer, you’ll find it here. In fact, you can find live music all throughout the city, including at the state-of-the-art track itself, Circuit of The Americas.
Austin360, located at the base of the circuit's famed Tower, can host up to 14,000 guests, which brings in the brightest and most talented stars in the music business. With more than 6,700 reserved seats that features a spacious lawn, makes it perfect for enjoying unforgettable performances under the stars with family and friends.
The city itself turns into a music venue. Everywhere you go at almost any time of the day, you'll hear someone jamming out and when the infectious rhythms take over there's no stopping the dancing.
2. Uniquely Austin
Downtown Austin lies right in the middle of the corner of wild and weird. A magical mix of entrepreneurs and artists means one-of-a-kind businesses, events and experiences that flourish left and right.
Downtown Austin has its own unique culture. With a mix of hippie and modern street style, it’s flooded with restaurants, bars, music, museums and entertainment. If you’re looking for a bite to eat that is unique to Austin, you’ll have an array of selections here in the heart of the city. The Alamo Drafthouse combines two of lifes greatest pleasures: beer and movies. Check it out here. If it’s Austin’s history you’re seeking, there are plenty of tours that run all day long that you can be a part of.
If it’s nightlife you’re looking for, you’ll find that here too. The most popular area is 6th Street, also known as Pecan Street. It is full of older, historical buildings that were converted into bars, art galleries, music venues and cafes. This is where Austin comes alive after dark.
3. Active Austin Classics
Did you know, Austin is home to the world's largest urban bat colony? If you want to get your "inner Batman" going, head to the Congress Avenue Bridge where at dusk you can witness over 1.5 million bats take off into the night sky. How's that for an Instagram moment?
If that doesn't get your blood flowing how about taking in Texas' natural beauty via a hike, bike, or kayak! Head over to Lady Bird Lake where you can explore the many trails available for hiking and biking. The Texas Rowing Center on Lady Bird Lake also rents kayaks or canoe, for a couple hours or the day depending on how much you love nature! This is great for the whole family.
If you want to get out of Austin for the day and really experience the great outdoors, you don’t have to go far. Mount Bonnell is a great place to get away. It’s the highest point in Austin at 775 feet. The hike is not too difficult and it gives a spectacular view of the city and lake.
You could also visit Zilker Park which offers volleyball courts, a disc golf course and several fields for those that want to be more active. Plus, it is home to the Zilker Botanical Gardens.
Lake Travis is also not far from Austin and offers an abundance of water sport activities. If you’re experiencing a hot day while you’re in Austin for the TUDOR Championship & WEC, feel free to try-out one of the water sports. And if it’s a cooler day, you can rent a boat for your group and go for a leisurely cruise on the water.
