This fall marks the 2015 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX™ and only two months remain until the fast-paced, technically-detailed action of Formula 1™ racing arrives in Texas! It was recently announced that Sir Elton John will be giving a two-hour post-race concert along with his full band on the evening of Sunday the 25th, providing guests with the exciting opportunity to see one of rock and roll’s legendary stars perform live. Circuit of The Americas™ promises plenty of fun and festivities in addition to the smell of burnt rubber and the dulcet tones of the “Rocket Man” over the course of the weekend, though it’s hard to imagine anything topping these headlining events!
What else is there to do in the Texas state capital and unofficial “live music capital of the world”? TONS. See what the culture and nightlife of Austin will have to offer during the weekend of the F1™ USGP!
“Race fans are linked by that feeling that lives within, an expression felt in sound, seen in movement, experienced in drive. The race comes down to one moment, captured in a frame. All in all, it is life, it is art, it is the show.”
This year, the POP AUSTIN Art Show will host a satellite exhibit in the Grand Plaza at Circuit of The Americas™ during F1™ USGP weekend! A collection of fine art will be showcased including pieces from Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Orlinski, Desire Obtain Cherish, Shane Guffogg, Micky Hoogendijk and many more! All race goers are invited to check out the exhibit over the course of the weekend.
POP AUSTIN typically showcases contemporary art, and if that’s more up your alley, feel free to check out their keystone production downtown entitled “ILLUMINATION.” This exhibit debuts the same weekend and promises to be an extraordinary international assemblage of light-based art as a nod to the United Nations’ naming of 2015 as the “International Year of Light.”
6th Street is where it’s at in downtown Austin. If you’re looking for a respectable but laid-back place to let your hair down, stop by the dual-level Voodoo Room after dark! Though it’s only been open for a couple of years and is relatively new to the Austin scene, its warm décor and cool atmosphere evoke a haunted mansion in New Orleans and have made it an extremely popular watering hole.
Much like its neighbor, Houston, Austin is known for its diverse scene of live music venues downtown. Blues, country, folk music, rock and roll, jazz, hip hop – you name it and you’ll find it. If you’re looking for a space downtown that combines the nightclub atmosphere with multi-genre live music, look no further than Parish! Parish has played hosts to prominent artists such as Pete Townshend and Slash in the past and already has several acts lined up for the weekend of the October 23rd.
According to their Facebook page, the sixth location of legendary blues venue Antone’s is scheduled to open later in 2015. The late owner of Antone’s, Clifford Antone, is widely regarded as the man responsible for launching the career of blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan and several other prominent musicians. Keep an eye on their Facebook or Twitter for their official reopening date!
