The world-class Circuit of The Americas™ will play host to the 2016 season opener of the Pirelli World Challenge, where all World Challenge classes will be featured as part of the series headline event weekend! Circuit of The Americas is a world-class racetrack that’s 3.4 miles in length and features dramatic, natural elevation changes along with 20 turns.
One of the best qualities of the PWC is the fact that each race is a sprint lasting only 50 minutes in length. Need to hit the restroom or grab a bite to eat? Breaks between racing action are frequent, giving you ample opportunities to take care of your business. The event kicks off in the middle of the week with testing and practice rounds before moving into qualifying races on Friday. Check out the weekend schedule below!
Saturday, March 5th
Saturday is when the real action begins! The day starts off with early morning qualifying rounds for the GTS and GT-GTA-GT Cup classes before getting to the true race day excitement. You’ll want to grab something quick to eat and find your seat before 11:45 AM, when the second race of the TC-TCA-TCB classes begins! This race will feature 2-seat roadsters, coupes, hatchbacks, wagons, and sedans with power outputs ranging from 200-275 whp in the Touring Car class, as well as the A and B-Spec classes featuring smaller, more efficient, and more cost-effective cars.
A break for lunch will be held from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM while OEM Hot Laps are run. During this break, fans will have a chance to get up-close and personal with PWC drivers from the TC-TCA-TCB classes during the 30-minute autograph session starting at 1:15 PM.
The GT-GTA-GT Cup pre-race and March to the Grid will be held at 2 PM, with the first race beginning at 2:30 PM. These classes feature sports cars, sport touring cars, and performance versions of luxury cars with power outputs ranging from 425-525 hp. You’ll see both professional drivers and sportsman drivers thanks to the GTA class, and the GT Cup class features Porsche 991 GT3 Cup cars.
The first race for the Grand Touring Sport class and the final race of the day begins at 4:15 PM. You’ll see vehicle styles similar to those in the GT-GTA-GT Cup classes, but front-wheel drive is permitted and power outputs range from 300-400 whp.
Sunday, March 6th
Warm-ups for the GTS class will begin at 9 AM, followed by the GT-GTA-GT Cup warm-ups at 9:45 AM.
